Powdered Transfer Dyes Scarlet
Transfer dyes come in a powder form, and are very economical to use. They can be used on synthetics like polyester, etc.
How to
It is a good idea to label your colour pots as you make them up, as the colours can be difficult to tell apart in their liquid form. Once ironed the true colours then become visible, also before ironing the colours may look muddy and unappealing. Mix approximately half a teaspoon of powder into a plastic container by sprinkling onto warm water.
Paint your design onto lightweight paper eg photo copy paper, not forgetting that your designs will come out as a 'mirror image'.
Let the paper dry naturally or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. Place the paper, design side down, onto your fabric and iron - as hot as the fabric can stand, moving the iron about to prevent any scorching. Check if the image has transferred by gently peeling one corner first, and carry on ironing if required. If the image transfer is ok, just remove the paper.
Your work is now colour fast and can be washed by hand or machine.
