Jacquard Sodium Alginate SH 60g
About:
Sodium Alginate is in fact seaweed, commonly used as a thickener in the other industries.
It is one of the best thickeners for fibre reactive dyes such as Jacquard Procion MX
and also as a thickener for other liquids too.
Use sodium alginate when you require dyes to be thicker or more like a paint. Dyes will then stay put when brushed on to fabric,
Also good for stamping, stencilling or silk screening the dyes.
These methods require a little more work but fabrics are left without the feel that paints leave on fabric.
May also be mixed with water to be used as a marbling "size".
Method:
Slowly sprinkle the thickener in to your liquid dye etc, mixing in thoroughly as you go.
A food blender maybe used to do the mixing, pouring the thickener in through the top slowly.
Leave for about an hour before using this will allow the thickener to do its work.
There are two types of sodium alginate.
Sodium Alginate F is used for silk and synthetics when fine line definition is required
Sodium Alginate SH is used primarily for cotton and other cellulose fibres.
It may be used for silk where fine line definition is not required.
