One of the earliest forms of synthetic dye.

• Economical dye for immersion dyeing of most natural fabrics.
• Dark shades of colour may be achieved with roughly 2gms dye powder for every 100gms of fabric
• The dyebath requires simmering over a heat-source, or high temperature long machine-wash, with the addition of salt or vinegar (cotton or silk).

Particularly useful for easy dyeing of items where strong but not necessarily bright colours are required, but where high wash-fastness is not an issue - eg not being worn & washed repeatedly.
